The Matterhorn prospect area is underlain by Pennsylvanian sediments of the Stikine Assemblage.

Multiple skarn showings are located on the west half of a precipitous peak (the ‘Matterhorn’) situated in the northeast corner of the Mon 2 claim. In 1990, Bryndon field crews did a limited program of prospecting and grab sampling along accessible areas of the skarn zone showings. The zone consists of a large area of mineralization where original rock textures have been completely obliterated and replaced by a skarn mineral assemblage consisting primarily of calcite and specular hematite. Within this large area of skarn mineralization are numerous very irregular mineralized fractures which strike and dip at various orientations. They vary in width from a few centimetres to up to 1 metre. These fractures carry heavy to locally massive sulphides consisting primarily of pyrite and chalcopyrite with minor malachite and arsenopyrite. The wall rock for several metres on either side of the mineralized fractures exhibits a very visible 'paint' caused primarily by oxidation of the mineralized fractures.

In 1987, on the Mon 1 and 2, 19 rock and 6 soil samples were collected (Assessment Report 17533). Skarn sediments hosting pyrite mineralization assayed up to 2.81 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 17553). Exploration in 1990 was limited to grab sampling of accessible showings within the skarn zone on the Mon 2 claim. One sample assayed up to 71.49 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 20928).

During the 2007 program, prospecting and surface geochemical rock sampling were conducted on this area by Romios Gold. See Assessment Report 30449 for assay data on all the showings listed below:

The Darcie-P showing is located at UTM 380814 E, 6303572 N, elevation, 1887 metres, at base of cliff (Figure 24 or 25), the Darcie-P showing consists of a 0.5-metre-wide vein with bedded, semi-massive to massive pyrite and magnetite. The host rock has veinlet and stockworking magnetite and pyrite. In samples 686615 and 686616, crystals of cubic pyrite and lensoid type massive sulphides up to 10 centimetres in width were recognized within the vein. Three samples were taken.

The Dave-M showing is located at the vicinity of 380890 E; 6303567 N, elevation 1872 metres. Mineralization sampled was from a 1.5 metres wide zone of jarositic alteration at base of a cliff within fine-grained volcanics. The showing was described as covered by thick, fine talus debris, presumably fallen from cliff above. A single sample was taken that returned 0.03 grams per tonne gold and 0.0185 per cent copper Assessment Report 30449).

The Shaun-P showing is located on the side of Matterhorn Mountain, at UTM 380760 E; 6303524 N, elevation 1791 metres. Mineralization sampled was described as a 1.5-metre wide zone containing pyrite veins and massive pyrite, with minor amounts of specularite and magnetite. The sampled float was found below the Darcie-P vein. Two samples were taken.

The Karen-D showing is located at the base of the slope of Matterhorn Peak with UTM 380814 E; 6303572 N, elevation 1850 metres. A single sample was taken, assay number 686617, which returned 0.26 grams per tonne gold and 0.02 per cent copper (Assessment Report 30449).

The John-R showing is located at the base of the slope of Matterhorn Peak at UTM 380868 E; 6303633 N, elevation 1851 metres. Sampled mineralization was described as a 1 metre wide zone containing specular hematite, pyrite, magnetite and garnet near the contact of the limestone with the volcanics. The limestone appeared to be brecciated, and iron-carbonate alteration was noted in the adjacent volcanic rocks. A single sample was taken, assay number 686609, which returned 0.102 gram per tonne gold and 0.03 per cent copper (Assessment Report 30449).

In 2013 Geotech Ltd. carried out a helicopter-borne electromagnetic (ZTEM) and aeromagnetic geophysical survey for Romios Gold Resources Inc over the Newmont Lake Block, comprising parts of the Newmont Lake property (Geophysics Report, Assessment Report 35016, Appendix VI). The following 21 mineral occurrences were covered by the survey: Ken (104B 027), 72 (Dirk) (104B (114), McLymont (104B 126), Northwest (McLymont), (104B 281), Jazzman (104B 282), Ridge (104B 325), Gab Northwest (104B 333), GAB 12 (104B 335), GAB 11 (104B 336), NEW (104B 379), Telena (104B 428), Bren (104B 429), Arseno (104B 432), Mon 2 (104B 433), Glacier Zone (104B 438), Camp Ridge (104B 441), Kirby NE (104B 442), Black Bear (104B 459), 2Bad (104B 460), Bridget (104B 462), O'Neil (104B 463.

In 2014, Romios Gold Resources Inc. conducted a prospecting and sampling program that included the evaluation of various showings and mineralized occurrences on the Newmont Lake and Trek Properties. A total of 314 rock chip samples and reconnaissance rock samples and 26 stream silt samples were collected.

In 2015, Romios Gold reported that a program of additional prospecting and sampling was carried out on the Burgundy Ridge discovery (Exploration and Mining in British Columbia 2015, page 135)

No work is reported for 2016 or 2017.

In January and February 2018 Geotech Ltd. carried out a helicopter-borne Versatile Domain Electromagnetic (VTEM) and aeromagnetic geophysical survey on behalf of Romios Gold Resources Inc. The survey covered three claim blocks: DIRK, KEN and NORTHWEST comprising parts of the Newmont Lake property and covered a total of 714 line-kilometres (Assessment Report 37492, containing Geotech Ltd. Geophysical Report (Appendix Two)). The KEN survey block covered the following mineral occurrences: Ken (104B 027), Matterhorn (Mon 2) (104B 433), Glacier Zone (104B 438), 2Bad (104B 460), Mom's Peak (Bridget) (104B 462), O'Neil (104B 463).

Garnet-magnetite-epidote skarn-type copper-gold-silver mineralization occurs as an arcuate string of showings on the 2018 Ken geophysical survey block: Ken (104B 027), Matterhorn (104B 433), Glacier Zone (104B 438), 2Bad (104B 460), Mom's Peak (104B 462), O'Neil (104B 463). Syenite dikes intersected in drilling at the Ken and Glacier zones are scarce or absent at surface. A potential source pluton for the syenite dikes is indicated by a 1.5 kilometre long aeromagnetic high south of the Ken and 2Bad zones, west of Glacier and O'Neill occurrences, north of Matterhorn and east of Mom's Peak (Figure. 5, Assessment Report 37492). The closest VTEM anomaly is about 2.5 kilometres southeast.

In late 2018, Crystal Lake Mining announced that it had acquired a 100 per cent interest in the 436 square kilometre Newmont Lake Project from Romios Gold.

In 2019, Crystal Lake conducted a drill program, on the Burgundy Ridge prospect area (104B 325) and the Northwest deposit. They also conducted extensive grassroots exploration.

See Ken (104B 027) and Northwest (104B 021) for details of related geology and work history.

See Ken (104B 027) and Gab 12 (104B 335) for common work history details. Also see Northwest (104B 021) for details of the Newmont Lake work of Romios Gold that is relevant to the Matterhorn showings including 2013 airborne geophysics that defines M3 magnetic body.
